After the publication of this article, a representative from Polaris contacted us to clarify the details of the recall mentioned. The US CPSC announced the recall on February 22, 2024, but Polaris stated that it is not a new recall. Polaris issued an official Stop Sale, Stop Ride notice to customers and dealers on July 13, 2023, and informed the CPSC about the issue at that time.

The recall notice issued on February 22, 2024, in collaboration with the US CPSC, is just the latest update in an ongoing recall process. Polaris mentioned on its website that approximately 14,000 vehicles worldwide are affected by this issue.

Polaris issued a safety recall on February 22, 2024, for certain Matryx-platform snowmobiles from model years 2022 through 2024, equipped with 650 and 850 Patriot engines. The affected snowmobiles could experience primary drive clutch failure, leading to potential separation of the clutch from the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or accidents.

Approximately 9,200 snowmobiles in the US and 3,800 in Canada are believed to be affected by this recall. The recall was initiated by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, responsible for overseeing safety recalls on off-road vehicles.

In Canada, Transport Canada, the equivalent organization to the US CPSC and NHTSA, issued a similar recall for Canadian snowmobile owners of the same range of Polaris snowmobiles.

Since the Matryx is a platform and not a specific model, various models built on this platform between 2022 and 2024 may be impacted.

Both the US CPSC and Transport Canada advise owners to stop riding affected snowmobiles until they can be repaired. Polaris is notifying its dealership network and registered owners of the affected machines to address this issue.

According to the US CPSC report, Polaris has received 109 clutch failure reports as of February 22, 2024, with nine involving clutch components separating from the unit. One of these reports resulted in a laceration injury.
